Lecture Free Day in Protest of “no work, no pay” Policy.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to embark on one day nationwide protest rally over the implementation of “no work, no pay” policy by the federal government.
The protests will be organized at the branch level of academic staff union of university across public university campuses nationwide and it will take place as free lecture day for all lecturers who are members of academic staff union of university (Asuu).
According to University of Lagos, (Unilag), the Asuu chairman of the institution Dr. Dele Ashiru, urge all lecturers to fixed date for protest against the policy of “no work, no pay policy”.
He further said that University of Lagos set to fixed dates on 15 November 2022 for its own rally.
He said lecturers are intellectuals and professionals and dare not to be treated as casual workers.
According to him, the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, want to prove that he knows more than every other person in the world but we will show him that his attempt to cage the lecturers, particularly from engaging unionism would never come to pas as far Nigeria is concerned.
Also, some rights activists including Abiodun Areme, who is the secretary general of Joint Front Action, Hassan Soweto, the national coordinator of Education Right Campaign; Giwa Yisa Temitope, the Public Relations Officer of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS)and Victor Odeyemi, among others are been billed to address the gathering.
Recalls that the Federal Government paid only half salary for the month of October to the public university lecturers, who had been in industrial strike and have returned to work on October 14th.
The half salary payment, the lecturer believe that it was the handwork of the minister of labour and employment over the implementation of “no work, no pay” policy.
